Elaine Whittington has been working in the purchasing field for over forty years. She spent twenty five years with Lockheed-Martin. She received her degree from UCLA and taught “Fundamental of Purchasing” in their Extension Program. She has done workshops and keynote presentations in many U.S. Cities as well and Australia, Mexico, Sweden, Germany and Canada, teaching both to students in the private and public sectors of the business world Elaine is a former president of the Institute of Supply Management under the previous governance scheme and also the recipient of ISM’s esteemed J.Shipman gold medal award. read more

Jim Pfeiffer, the chairman of the Electronic Supply Management Group is a Director in the Business Consulting Group of Alvarez & Marsal specializing in supply chain improvement. Jim has helped companies reduce costs, reduce risk and improve revenues through transformation of supply management organizations, processes and technology.

Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal, Jim served as Director - Professional Services for Perfect Commerce, a supply chain solutions provider where he led the implementation and process change team. His team was responsible for successful implementation and integration of a variety of internet-based eProcurement and Supplier Relationship Management applications .

Previously, Jim specialized in supply chain engagements at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he established a proven track record of creating value for organizations through identification and implementation of strategic options, and through detailed analysis, design and implementation of business processes, organizations, technologies and performance management systems. Jim led a variety of Supply Chain projects on a global scale, both as a consultant and as a line manager, encompassing technical, functional, contractual, and commercial roles.

Jim also served as Vice-President - Business Development for an e-procurement services provider where he developed a professional services business line, evaluated and selected e-commerce platforms, and created strategic alliances with technology partners and group purchasing organizations.
Jim’s experience spans a broad range of industries including Agribusinesses, Automotive, Banking, Chemicals, Insurance, Government, Oil & Gas (Upstream and Downstream), Pulp & Paper, Technology, Telecommunications and Waste Management.

Jim began his career at Exxon where he served in a variety of roles including business planning, marketing, industrial sales and engineering. Jim holds a Master of Business Administration from Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri.

Elaine Whittington, C.P.M.

Elaine Whittington has been working in the purchasing field for over forty years. During that time she has been involved with everything from purchasing small parts to administering large supply chain management programs. The latter was done even before “supply chain management” was a recognized skill. She worked for twenty-five years at Lockheed-Martin where she worked on both government and commercial programs. Many of her programs were used as models for other divisions of the firm as well as other suppliers.

She received her degree from UCLA and taught “Fundamental of Purchasing” in their Extension Program. She has done workshops and keynote presentations in many U.S. Cities as well and Australia, Mexico, Sweden, Germany and Canada, teaching both to students in the private and public sectors of the business world.

Elaine is a past president of the Institute of Supply Management formerly The National Association of Purchasing Management as well as The National Association of Purchasing Management-Los Angeles now ISM-Los Angeles. She is also a dual member of both Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley and an honorary member of NAPM-Orange County. She has held numerous other offices at both local and national levels.

In addition Elaine has been honored by the East Los Angeles Community Union, the YWCA and two of the honor societies at Cal Poly Pomona for her achievements in the field of purchasing. Elaine was the recipient of the J.Shipman gold medal award from the National Association of Purchasing Management for the year 2000. This is the highest award given by the Institute of Supply Management (ISM).

Mike Taylor, C.P.M., has been a Supply Chain professional since 1973. His career includes purchasing responsibility for a custom fabricator of large hydraulic cylinders, commercial nuclear power plant construction and Federal Government contractors. Mike has purchased and/or managed the acquisition of specialized technical services, ASME-qualified plant equipment, steel tubing, forgings, castings, chemicals and MRO items.

Mike is presently a Supply Chain Specialist for Fluor Hanford, Inc., the Management and Integration Contractor at the Department of Energy Hanford Site. His team is responsible for acquisition policies, procedures, professional training and integrating Supply Chain processes into electronic systems. Mike has been a leader in the effective use of the internet, ERP systems, web-based tools, electronic commerce and electronic records in the Supply Chain organization.

Mike helped found the National Association of Purchasing Management, Columbia Basin in 1980 and filled many leadership roles in both the local and regional NAPM organizations, including chairing the Pacific Northwest Purchasing Conference. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for service to the profession including the 1991 NAPM Professional Development Person of the Year, 1998 NAPM presidential citation and in 2003 the ISM Pacific and Northwest Forum Sid A. Brown, C.P.M. Award of Excellence.

Mike presents Supply Chain related seminars, workshops and company training programs. Mike has also been a presenter at the Institute for Supply Management leadership workshops. He is the developer and owner of www.MLTWEB.COM  and the PURCHASING TOOLBOX; a web site of articles, resources and information for supply chain professionals. In December 2000, Mike's web site was recognized as one of the top 25 purchasing related web sites by iSource Magazine.

Kenneth P. Wellington

Ken, a member of the board and past chairman of the Electronic Supply Management Group is a Vice-President of Storeroom Solutions Inc. a $100+ Million Business specializing in the MRO indirect supply chain management industry. Ken is the Co-founder of SSI and has worked with over 100 companies in reducing indirect costs, eliminating inventory and indirect cost of purchasing through transformation of supply management organizations, into a lean and profitable organization. Ken is also the current President of the ISM Philadelphia Chapter and past President of the APICS Chapter of Birmingham AL.

Prior to starting Storeroom Solutions Inc., Ken served as President of his own Company Inventrol Inc.an integrated supply and distribution organization working with the Mining industry. Ken has written many articles on the supply chain and has spoken to various organizations over the years about the changes in purchasing and material management.

Previously, Ken worked as the Corporate Director of Material and Purchasing for the Drummond Company a $2+ Billion 42 Division company, ran 5 Plastic injection Molding Plants for Bethlehem Steel as Division Director of Operations.

Ken also served in Management positions from Manager, Director, to Vice-President with companies like Commercial Shearing, Chicago Pneumatic, Clark Equipment, Bethlehem Steel, US Steel, Drummond Company, and Pizza Hut.

Ken’s experience spans a broad range of industries including Mining, Plastics, Food, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Industrial Tools, Steel, and Mobile Equipment.

Ken began his career at a Production Scheduler for Commercial Shearing Inc. in there pump and valve Division. Ken holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management, Accounting, and Economics from the Youngstown State University of Ohio. He is Certified as a CPIM in APICS and Certified in Production Management from Michigan. Ken has worked as a adjunct professor at University of Alabama, Western Michigan, University Syracuse, and Delaware College teaching business courses in Purchasing and Materials Management.

Brian G. Long, C.P.M.

Dr. Brian G. Long, C.P.M. is president of the Marketing and Management Institute, a Kalamazoo based seminar and consulting firm. From 1975 to 1985, he served as Associate Professor of Marketing at Western Michigan University where he taught industrial marketing, industrial purchasing, and marketing strategy.

Dr. Long received his Ph.D. from the College of Business at Michigan State University in 1975. Since then, he has been active doing research in the areas of business cycles, industrial marketing, industrial purchasing, and negotiation. He is co-author of The Win-Win Negotiator, a One Minute Manager style book.

Since 1976, Dr. has been an active member of the National Association of Purchasing Management and the Institute for Supply Management. He served on the board of his local association for seven years, and was District IV Professional Development Chair for three years. In 1994, he received the Homer Hauger Award, District IV’s highest honor. For over 27 years, he has edited a survey of local purchasing managers for both the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids areas, which has proved to be a major economic indicator of current and future business conditions.

Since 1977, he has conducted hundreds of seminars across the entire nation for such firms as Onan, Cardiac Pacemaker, Northwest Airlines, Sidemen’s, Eaton, Standard Oil, Upjohn, Schering-Plough, Boise-Cascade, Detroit Edison, Rockwell International, Parker-Hannifin, Freeport Sulfur, Philip Morris, General Foods, RJR-Nabisco, and I.B.M. Over 25,000 people from over 480 of the “Fortune 500” have now attended his seminars.

Ernest Gabbard,

Ernest G. Gabbard has over 20 years of procurement management experience and is currently Director of Strategic Sourcing for Allegheny Technologies Incorporated in Pittsburgh.

Ernest Gabbard was previously in senior procurement management positions with Hughes Aircraft and Litton Industries, and was a Contracting Officer with the U.S. Government. He has conducted business transactions in 34 countries, and resided for over 11 years in Europe, Asia, and Middle East.
He is a frequent speaker on these subjects at professional organizations such as Institute for Supply Management (ISM), and National Contract Management Association (NCMA). His articles on procurement and contracting management issues have been published in numerous national publications including the ISM’s "Inside Supply Management" and NCMA’s "Contract Management" magazines. He is a member of the Editorial Review Board for ISM’s “Journal of Supply Chain Management”, and IOMA’s “Supplier Selection & Management Report”.

Mr. Gabbard holds several college degrees, including a Juris Doctorate (law) degree, and taught Procurement, Contract Management, and Contract Law classes for University of California and California State University. He is currently on the Board of Advisors for Supply Chain Management at Duquesne University.

Sandy Webb

Sandy Webb is a Program Manager for BellSouth Corporation based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Since 1998 Sandy has been instrumental in the “e>tizing” of various Supply Chain processes at BellSouth. As team lead, Sandy managed the development and implementation of BellSouth’s web-based purchasing portal known as BellSouth Online Buying (BOB). BOB was a corporate-wide initiative to e>tize the procurement process using internet technology to link from the BellSouth intranet to different supplier websites in order to transact purchasing and order status transactions. In addition to e-procurement, Sandy has implemented e-sourcing, contract management, supplier registration, several Centralized Vendor Management applications as well as a B2B platform. Sandy’s efforts to introduce a standardized technology component to support BellSouth’s strategic sourcing program has been a key element in its success.

Sandy has held numerous positions within BellSouth ranging from Information Technology, Legal, Finance, Human Resources to her current position in Supply Chain. Her diverse background and project management skills have enabled many BellSouth organizations to effectively collaborate with Supply Chain on different aspects of the procurement and supply management process.

Sandy is currently managing the Staff Augmentation program at BellSouth which includes management of a preferred supplier program, VMS implementation, sourcing standardization and compliance monitoring. Supply Chain

Eileen Kabay

Eileen B. Kabay, the Electronic Supply Management Group’s Secretary, is the Manager of Strategic Sourcing at Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. 

Eileen has over twenty years of government and commercial procurement experience.  In her current role at Booz Allen, she is responsible for Global Sourcing, Global Travel, and Independent Contractor Services.  Previously, Eileen was Booz Allen’s Manager of Purchasing, responsible for their Buyer Team, as well as the Government Property, Asset Management, Small Business and National Accounts Programs.  Prior to her career at Booz Allen, Eileen was the Manager of Government Purchasing at Electronic Data Systems Corporation.

Career highlights include:  Streamlining procurement processes and reducing costs through implementation of e-procurement solutions; Developing a “Self-Governance” program, in collaboration with the Defense Contract Management Agency, focused on continuous process improvement for government contracting; Passing multiple Contractor Purchasing System Reviews, Government Property and Small Business Audits.

Eileen is an active member of the Institute for Supply Management and the National Contract Management Association.  Eileen holds her Contracts and Procurement Management Certification from the University of Virginia.

Raymond Wise

Ray Wise is the Manager of Strategic Procurement at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His professional experience includes almost 20 years in supply chain management and related fields.

Prior to joining Harvard, Ray was Director of eSourcing Product Management for Perfect Commerce, a supply chain solutions provider. His responsibilities included the development and delivery of eSourcing, Contract Management, and Supplier Performance Management solutions. In addition, Ray worked with customers across the United States to implement these solutions, improve bottom-line results, and increase individual productivity.
Previously, Ray worked on supply chain, business process development, and system implementation engagements at Deloitte Consulting. His clients varied from small manufacturers to a large government agency. Ray’s work included roles and responsibilities in sourcing process redesign, logistics analysis, program management, supply chain assessment, and master data management and conversion. In addition, Ray played a key role in the development of Deloitte’s national community service program.

Ray began his career in the consumer products industry, serving in a variety of procurement, engineering, operations, and supply chain planning roles. He earned a Master of Science in Management from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

Ray also holds a CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) designation from APICS, the Association for Operations Management.
