Some Disturbing Facts About Aging Skin Problems

The signs of your skin looking older are due to many factors and have the tendency to creep up on you slowly over time. However, there are a few things we can do to halt that progress.

Those aging skin problems don’t make happy reading to many of us who may be showing the signs and wondering what can done. Knowing what leads to them appearing is of course important and doing something positive is the key.

Let’s just say that the one thing you can’t do anything about is the genes you’ve inherited, often called intrinsic aging, or put more simply the aging process itself. In some cases this may unfold slowly, but it’s genetics that controls it. The other side of the coin is extrinsic or the external factors.

These are many and we’ll mention some like gravity, smoking and even your sleeping position, but maybe the most relevant with aging skin problems is sun exposure. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s something you might have overdone during your last summer vacation, as it’s progressive damage, even a few minutes every day over years.

The sad results are that your body begins to lose its ability to repair itself and create new collagen, that all important substance that contributes towards skin elasticity. Too much unprotected sun exposure will just lead to skin appearing loose, wrinkly and leathery.

Learning to cover up, slap on a high factor cream and staying out of the midday sun are just some of the common sense tips we ought to follow from an early age.

Whilst surgical and non surgical techniques abound there’s also a great deal to be said for picking effective, topical treatments that can help keep your skin younger and healthier looking.
